The player auction for the 11th season of the Indian Premier League saw the prices of the players go even higher up in the sky. The total signing amount of the 5 most expensive players would total up to cross Rs. 50 crores easily. Let us have a look at the top 5 costliest signings of the 2018 IPL player auction.

Ben Stokes once again dominated the headlines after Rajasthan Royals made him the most expensive player of the IPL 2018 auction when they signed him for 12.5 Crore. Stokes was the most expensive player of last season as well when Rising Pune Supergiants splashed 14.5 Cr on the English all-rounder.

Stokes went on to have an exceptional IPL under Steve Smith and won the MVP award in IPL 2017. Since then, Stokes has been England’s main player but has also seen controversies chase him after he was involved in a brawl outside a nightclub in England.

However, it did not stop the teams go all out to sign Stokes who is regarded as the best all-rounder in world cricket at the moment across all formats. Apart from Ben Stokes signing for 12.5 Cr, there were plenty of expensive deals which were completed at the IPL 2018 Auctions.

Indian pacer Jaydev Unadkat became the most expensive Indian player to be sold at the IPL 2018 auctions where once again it was Rajasthan Royals who won the bidding war for Unadkat and signed him for 11.5 Cr.

According to Harsha Bhogle, Unadkat has been one of the top-3 Indian pacers in the limited overs cricket in last 12-18 months and despite people questioning the money spent for him, Unadkat will come good for the Royals and will certainly justify his price tag of 11.5 Cr.

Next up in the line of Top 5 most expensive players of IPL 2018 auction were the Indian batting stars Manish Pandey and KL Rahul. While Kolkata Knight Riders were certain to sign Manish Pandey but their plan was gazumped when Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to submit an 11 Cr. bid for the Indian middle order batsman.

Kings XI Punjab, on the other hand, went after KL Rahul who has previously played as a wicketkeeper-batsman for RCB and is waiting for the right opportunity to show his full potential. Kings XI Punjab have done a complete makeover to their team and were keen on signing Indian players.

Rahul was one of their priority signings as he gets his teams to flying starts and he manages to keep wickets as well. That is why Kings XI Punjab decided to splash 11 Cr on Rahul and make him one of the top 5 most expensive buys of the IPL 2018 Auction.

The final name on our list of top 5 most expensive buys of the IPL 2018 Auction is the destructive opening batsman Chris Lynn who was once again signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders who paid 9.6 Cr for Lynn.
