The Marquee England all-rounder Ben Stokes has been signed by the returning Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals for a whopping price of 12.5 Crore INR. Despite Stokes facing possible criminal charges, Rajasthan did not hesitate in outbidding the other teams to sign last year’s MVP (Most Valuable Player).
Stokes was always certain to draw out the big money given his all-round abilities and any team having him in their lineup would be hopeful of a successful run in this season’s Indian Premier League.
Stokes played for the Rising Pune SuperGiants last season so none of the teams had the option of signing him using their RTM so it was always going to be a battle of bids from the IPL 2018 sides for Ben Stokes.
Chennai Super Kings were initially interested in signing Stokes and opened with an INR 2 Cr. bid and were soon joined by Kings XI Punjab who were prepared to counter every bid for the English all-rounder.
Chennai Superkings and Kings XI Punjab kept on bidding until the INR 6.6 Cr figure when Chennai decided to pull out of the bidding and gave KXIP a clear shot of signing Stokes, however, Kolkata Knight Riders soon joined the bidding war and opened their bid at INR 6.8 Cr.
Until that point, Rajasthan were not even in the frame as Kings XI Punjab and KKR went up to a bid of INR 11 Cr and were looking certain to get their man before Rajasthan Royals jumped with their opening bid of INR 12.5 Cr walked away with Ben Stokes.
Rajasthan Royals are making their comeback to the Indian Premier League after a gap of 2 years and signing Stokes has sent genuine alarm bells to all the others teams of their intention of regaining the IPL trophy.
Rajasthan pulled off another shrewd bid of the day by signing the Indian star Ajinkya Rahane for INR 4 Cr. Rahane drew attention from Mumbai Indians and KXIP and the bidding went up to 4 Cr. with the bid staying with KXIP but Rajasthan decided to match their RTM option and signed Rahane for INR 4 Cr.
