IPL 2018: Mumbai Indians (MI) use RTM card to buy Kieron Pollard for 5.4 cr

It was a slight shock for a few cricket fans and pundits to see Kieron Pollard not being retained by the Mumbai Indians earlier in the month. However, the Neeta Ambani owned team were always prepared to use theĀ ‘Right to Match’ card on their mercurial all-rounder in the auction.

Today, when Pollard’s name was announced in the opening rounds of the auction, Mumbai Indians allowed the other teams to fight amongst themselves. However, once the Delhi Daredevils looked confirmed to sign the all-rounder of 5.4 crs, Mumbai swooped in and used their RTM card to bring the West Indian back into their team.

Kieron Pollard is probably the most successful all-rounder in the Indian Premier League. He has scored over 2000 runs including 146 sixes, while he has also managed to take 56 wickets at an average of 31.60. The 30-year-old is not only useful with the bat and ball but is a real asset when it comes to fielding in the deep.

Pollard has over the years has taken some brilliant catches in the deep, which have always found their way to the catch of the season lists. His all-rounder capabilities are one of the best in world, therefore it wasn’t surprising to MI using one of their RTM cards on him. He would have strengthened any team which he would go too, hence it’s clear why Mumbai made sure that he went nowhere but to them.

Over the years Pollard has gained a lot of T20 experience through playing in the various T20 leagues around the world and there is no doubt that he will be a huge asset for any team that is looking make superstars for the future. His experience could be very valuable to the young players who will be playing alongside him.
