IPL 2018: Delhi Daredevils rope Glenn Maxwell for Rs. 9 crore

After a disappointing couple of seasons with Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians, Glenn Maxwell was bought by Kings XI Punjab in 2014. However, after 3 years of playing for the Punjab outfit, the Australian will return to Delhi Daredevils for season 11.

Maxwell’s name came up in the morning session of the IPL auction and after a brief bidding war between 4 teams, which included Sunrisers Hyderabad, RCB and Rajasthan Royals, it was Delhi Daredevils who managed to secure his signing with a 9 crore bid. Kings XI Punjab the option of using the ‘Right to Match’ card on the player, but after much deliberation, they decided to go without the hard-hitter for the upcoming seasons.

Maxwell has played some of the most destructive innings in IPL history and given his team some valuable breakthroughs with his part-time spin. Apart from contributing with the bat and the ball, the 29-year-old is amongst the best fielders in the world. Delhi who have underperformed till now, are desperate to bring in the best players to the capital in order to win their maiden IPL title.

Delhi made some bold choices while retaining their 3 players, hence it wasn’t surprising to see them go a little freely in the opening rounds of the auction. Maxwell will join former KKR captain Gautam Gambhir at Delhi, along with hard hard-hitters like Jason Roy and Colin Munro.

Glenn Maxwell has hit 6 half-centuries in the IPL, and has scored over 1200 runs at a strike-rate of over 164.
