IPL 2018: Anil Kumble thinks Harbhajan Singh will captain an IPL team

Harbhajan Singh might not be present in the international scheme of things anymore but remains an integral part of the Indian Premier League, where he has won 3 titles with the Mumbai Indians. However, after serving his franchise so well for the past few years, the off-spinner will need to find a new home for the upcoming season as he was not retained and neither can his franchise now use the RTM card on him.

There are few players around the world who can boast about playing the game for as long as Harbhajan has done. He has put in 100% effort every time he has walked onto the field and there is no doubt that he will be a huge asset for whichever decides to bid for him in the auction on 28th January.

Harbhajan Singh a potential captain for Kings XI Punjab

Harbhajan’s former bowling partner Anil Kumble has the ability to judge and understand players better than most. He was recently speaking on the show ‘Game Plan – The marquee List’ which airs on Star Sports and had a lot of good things to say about his former team-mate.

Anil Kumble believes that Harbhajan has tons of experience which can be of great help to the youngsters of any franchise. He might not be in the limelight anymore but let’s not forget that he still remains a fierce competitor who loves winnings. The record wicket-taker for India also made it clear that the off-spinner has not lost his ability with the ball and can still turn games single-handedly.

I think he still has consistency. He may not be picking wickets like what he used to but he is economical. In terms of what he can offer, it’s definitely control. Irrespective of whether he has been playing, with all the experience he has, he still has control and he will deliver,” said Anil Kumble.

Anil Kumble, who has been a former captain of India, believes that Kings XI Punjab could go for Harbhajan and even make him the captain of the side. His partnership with Axar Patel could form the bedrock of the team. He is not only lethal with the ball but also has the ability to swing his bat. The Turbanator is currently the captain of Punjab’s domestic team, where he has done a really good job.

“He [Harbhajan] could be the potential captain for Kings XI Punjab. They already have Axar Patel, so Axar and Bhajji can be two spinners with whom they can revolve the bowling attack around. His batting is certainly sometimes an asset. You never know when he can come and change the game. He is fearless, he brings that to his game as well, which I think Punjab need,” Anil Kumble concluded at the end.
