Playing for Punjab in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy domestic T20 competition, Yuvraj Singh slammed a 34-ball 40 to help his team beat Punjab by three wickets and register a second straight win in the Super League stage. Shreyas Iyer, who was playing for Mumbai, also scored an unbeaten 44-ball 79 but Yuvraj Singh’s decisive knock outshined Iyer’s bigger score on Monday (22 January).
Iyer scored 79 runs with the help of eight boundaries and four sixes to help Mumbai reach 198 for a loss of four wickets. Chasing the total, Punjab were 72 for two when the Indian cricketing veteran, Yuvraj Singh, brought his emphatic charisma to the crease, with opener Manan Vohra to accompany him.
Yuvraj Singh is known to always bat with a bang, and so he scored two fours and two sixes, too, during his knock. His new co-batsman Gurkeerat Singh, who scored a quickfire 18-ball 43, was surely inspired. Yuvraj found an ally in Gurkeerat Singh, as the duo helped the team register 100 runs in 57 balls. The relentless hammering of the Punjab side’s bowling unit, Yuvraj Singh and co. drove Mumbai past the target score with four balls to spare.
Punjab had beat Karnataka on Sunday (21 January), and now have two wins in their group – Group A.
