The 11th edition of the Indian Premier League is right on the corner, with the release of the official list of the 578 players who will be up for grabs at the IPL 2018 auction, taking place on 27 and 28 January. The whole lot of cricketers who are ready to go under the hammer, comprise of a varied range of cricketing veterans and emerging stars, which includes 360 Indians as well.
The player auction will see 36 marquee players who will be bought in the top-price range of INR 2 crores. Team India star players like – Ravichandran Ashwin, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Murali Vijay, Lokesh Rahul, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa, Yuzvendra Chahal and Karn Sharma – will be seen going into dominant teams in a bid to taste the IPL glory.
Apart from the Indian players, international cricketing champions such as Chris Gayle, Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, Glenn Maxwell, Joe Root, Mitchell Starc, Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Shakib Hasan will also be seen becoming the target of fierce bidding by the IPL franchises.
With 18 players already retained by the eight IPL franchises, the 578 players will compete for 182 available slots.
Sixty-two (62) capped, and 298 uncapped Indian cricketers will be up for grabs at the auction. While on the other hand, 182 capped, 34 uncapped overseas cricketers, and 2 cricketers from Associate Nations will also enter the auction to play in one of the richest T20 cricket tournaments.
As reported by Cricket Next, IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla said in a statement,
“A lot of strategizing and number-crunching is involved before a cricketer is picked at the IPL Player Auction. The dynamic nature of the auction makes it unpredictable and exciting.”
“The eight franchises have given us an indication of what their core would be with their Player Retentions and IPL 2018 Player Auction will be an important step towards the creation of a successful team. The marquee list is full of star players, but I am also looking forward to the uncapped Indian players who have proved their mettle in the earlier editions of the IPL and are sure to attract high bids.”
