Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is likely to be involved in a player+cash bid to sign Borussia Dortmund’s wantaway striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to reports from Bild.
Arsenal have been heavily involved in the January transfer window with deals for Alexis Sanchez, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and possibly Aubameyang as Arsene Wenger looks to add the much-needed firepower to his squad for the second half of this season.
Gunners have all but given up on Sanchez joining Man United in next 48 hours’ time and with Alexandre Lacazette’s recent goal drought, Wenger is keen to add a striker to his ranks this month.
Aubameyang seems to be the obvious choice given his recent troubles with Dortmund after he has handed a transfer request and is keep to join the North London giants.
Wenger was asked to comment on Aubameynag’s rumoured transfer interest to which he replied: “You started with an ‘if.’ If can be many theories. At the moment I cannot tell you much more.
“I have nothing to add to that. These kinds of things, it’s better when it’s secret and when you don’t come out on it, and when you announce it when it’s over the line.”
These comments did not go well with the Dortmund chiefs who are now demanding in excess of 40million and Giroud to sanction Aubameyang’s move to The Emirates.
Arsenal are also dealing with Theo Walcott’s exit this month after the England winger joined Everton for a reported 20m transfer fee. Wenger has often used Giroud from the bench and despite his goal-scoring prowess, the Frenchman has never got his due credit at the club.
Sky Sports expert Paul Merson claims that Giroud would be ideal for a side like Chelsea who are crying for a tall striker who can attack the ball. The Blues have been linked with a move for Andy Carroll and Peter Crouch in recent days but Merson believes Giroud would be the ideal man to lead Chelsea’s attack for at least a couple of seasons.
