MS Dhoni was sought by many IPL clubs, Here is why he chose CSK

Former India skipper and cricket hero, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, disclosed some information on Friday (19 January) which was to soon make rounds in news platforms across India. And here it is. Dhoni revealed that ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 Player Retention, many franchises had approached him at the start of New Year but he still chose Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

MS Dhoni, who was retained by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as a core member, conceded that there was no possibility of him opting for any other team than the ‘yellow brigade’. Dhoni’s impact on CSK’s IPL journey has been so huge, that the former captain is now greatly associated to the franchise, and has even become a Chennai fan-favorite.

Chennai Super Kings, a second home for MS Dhoni

As reported by NDTV Sports, Dhoni said at an event that even the thought of not coming back to Chennai Super Kings would have never crossed his mind. Answering to a question that whether CSK was natural choice for the 33-year-old, Dhoni said,

“A lot of people approached me, I can tell you that. But, you know, I can’t think (of) not coming back to CSK.”

Dhoni spoke about how he was floored by the love and huge support that CSK fans had offered to him throughout his IPL years. The wicketkeeper-batsman was especially moved by the way that Chennai Super Kings’ management had sustained a difficult phase during the last couple of years, when CSK was banned for spot-fixing.

MS Dhoni elaborated and said,

“And as I said, it is because of everything – what we been through, how we have conducted ourselves, how the management has been, how the players have been, how the fans have been. I always keep saying, you know, it is like a second home to me. The fans have over here have literally adopted me, they accept me as their own. There can’t be a bigger compliment than that. This is a special place and that thought of being with any other franchise was never a question. So that was a very easy answer for me.”

Apart from MS Dhoni, CSK also retained the remnants of their old core-triad – Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja.

Dhoni’s cricketing achievements

Dhoni was the main man at the apex of CSK’s cricketing affairs in the previous years of CSK’s IPL journey. His contribution was highly instrumental in steering CSK to the IPL championship glory in two consecutive seasons – 2010 and 2011.
He is one cricketer who would not need an introduction in any venue of the game, be it batting, wicket-keeping, or just being the mastermind behind the successful and brilliantly tailored tactics that led India to win the 2007 World Twenty20 and the 2011 World Cup.
He began his IPL career with CSK in the opening edition of the T20 tournament, back in 2008. With almost 10 years down the lane, Dhoni has scored 3,561 runs in the 159 matches that he has played for CSK and Rising Pune Supergiants – with an average of 37.88, and a highest score of 70 not-out.
