Don’t compare Hardik Pandya with me, says Kapil Dev

Former Indian skipper and a prolific all-rounder Kapil Dev criticized Hardik Pandya for making silly mistakes in the 2nd test match against South Africa and claimed that if he keeps repeating such mistakes people should stop comparing the two all-rounders.

Kapil Dev slams Hardik Pandya for silly mistakes

Kapil Dev was quoted by Times of India as saying: “If Pandya keeps making silly mistakes like these then he doesn’t deserve to be compared with me.”

Hardik has seen a rapid rise in his value in recent months after a prolific Indian Premier League and limited overs stint with Team India. Those performances saw him get a place in India’s test side vs South Africa.

After a bright performance in the 1st test, Hardik Pandya lost his head in both the innings at Centurion. In the first innings, he got himself run out after he forgot the drag the bat down for a quick run while in the 2nd innings, he got out playing a foolish ramp shot to a ball which was way outside his off stumps.

The situation of the game demanded Hardik to bat out with Rohit Sharma who was losing partners at the other end but Hardik chose to play his flamboyant game and became overconfident of his ability and ended up giving a simple catch to South African keeper Quinton De Kock.

Hardik has been tipped as India’s finest allrounder since the days of Kapil Dev but he needs to cut out these silly mistakes from his game to get even remotely close to what Kapil achieved for his country.

Long way to go for Hardik Pandya

Former Indian cricketer Sandip Patil echoed Kapil’s sentiments and said“I have played a lot of cricket with Kapil, really there is no comparison. Kapil played 15 years for India with terrific performance and Pandya is only in his fifth Test match. There is a long way to go.”

It is to be seen if Hardik pays for his action in the 2nd test match and loses the spot in India’s starting XI for the 3rd test vs South Africa at Johannesburg. Ajinkya Rahane, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Umesh Yadav are tipped to make a comeback in the side which could see India going with 4 frontline fast bowlers along with Ravi Ashwin.
