Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho looks set to sign a new contract with the club which will keep him at Old Trafford until the year 2021, reports Telegraph.
There were plenty of speculations surrounding Mourinho’s future at the club following an imperious season across the city by Pep Guardiola. United currently trail Man City by 12 points and are fast sliding down in the battle for Premier League trophy.
However, the club has decided to keep their faith in Mourinho and hand him a 2-year extension to his current contract. Jose touched on his contract extension earlier in the week where he claimed that he is looking to stay for long and restore Manchester United’s position as a European powerhouse.
Mourinho said: “My intention is to stay and to work and to improve and to bring the club to where the club belongs. And I want to stay. I do not see any reason not to stay. I still have a contract.”
“In fact I am in the middle of my contract. I am not in the last couple of months. My desire is to stay until the owners and the board is happy with my work. If I am going to sign a new one of course depends on the club but my commitment with the club is total and I want to stay.”
Since then United have seemingly beaten Manchester City for the signing of Alexis Sanchez and the general belief around Man United is all positive at the moment. Mourinho has a cordial relationship with all his players at the moment and is working closely with Ed Woodward on the transfer activities.
Over the years, Mourinho has struggled in his 3rd season at the helm but with Man United showing their support in the Portuguese, Mourinho could bring back the glory days at Old Trafford and help United fight for the title on both domestic as well as European front.
