Lead a disciplined life, says Anil Kumble

Former Indian captain Anil Kumble was the chief guest at the recently organised event celebrating National Youth Day by the Department of Youth Services and the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) at the Maris Stella College.

During Kumble’s address to the group of students present the event, he said,”Take up some sport in life as it will add value to your life.” He addressed the issue of dealing with failures and said those who fail are in a better position for guiding others, who might commit the same mistakes. The record Indian test wicket-taker urged the youth to take inspiration from Swami Vivekananda and focus on whatever they are doing with full effort.

While appreciating the students who performed Yoga before the start of the show and said,”Despite distractions, they (the students) didn’t deviate from their primary duty — that is performing yoga asanas. This is was what sport teaches”.

Kumble also took time to appreciate the great work being done by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in developing sports in the state. However, he warned all those present that even though we have millions of talented youngsters, we still have a long way when it comes to developing infrastructure and training facilities. He said, “India has immense talent. We need to provide the talented youngsters with opportunities”.

Various state ministers also spoke at the event. Minister Kollu Ravidra spoke about the great efforts the state government has made in developing sports just like education and employment for the future of their state residents.
