Karun Nair is one of those players who has learnt a huge amount just discussing his cricket with Rahul Dravid. The 25-year-old rose to fame after his brilliant triple hundred against England in 2016. However, not a lot of people know that early on his career when he was struggling for runs, it was Dravid’s advice which made the most impact on his game.
Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid is currently in New Zealand with the Indian U-19 team for the World Cup. Over the year’s Dravid has gained a lot of experience playing various conditions and there is a lot that a young cricketer can gain by spending time with him, whether it is his humility or perseverance.
Speaking about working with Rahul Dravid, Karun Nair said,
“I have always looked up to Rahul Dravid and I have been very lucky to work under him at Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils and India A.”
Dravid told Karun Nair to not fiddle with batting style
Karun Nair recalled one incident from the past with Dravid that eventually helped him become what he is today. The former Delhi Daredevils batsman said,
“Some years ago, during an India A tournament, I was not getting runs. So I went up to him [Dravid] and asked if I should change something in my batting. He immediately said — ‘Do not change anything at all. Be the way you are and keep batting like you have been.’ That helped me realise that I didn’t need anything more; I just needed to keep improving what I already had.”
