KL Rahul will replace Shikhar Dhawan for 2nd Test against South Africa

As per reports from Times of India, KL Rahul is certain to replace Shikhar Dhawan for the 2nd Test match between South Africa and India at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.

Ahead of the 2nd test match against South Africa, a major point of discussion is about the makeup of Indian batting lineup which was bundled for just 135 runs surrendering a 75-run loss as they trail 1-0 in the test series.

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma slipping away from Test squad

Amid the speculations for India’s lineup, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are sweating over their place in the team after a poor display in the 1st test. Dhawan was troubled by the short-balls and looked particularly uncomfortable against Morne Morkel.

As for Rohit, his limited overs cricket form was rarely on the show as he got out playing away from the body in both the innings. That is where Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri are looking to bring in orthodox test match players – KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane.

KL Rahul has been in a better form in Tests

Rahul has been in fine form in recent matches barring his last test against Sri Lanka at Nagpur. Rahul averages beyond 40 in away test matches and offers a better technique to short balls as compared to Shikhar Dhawan.

A similar change can be expected with Rahane replacing Rohit Sharma in the lineup for India’s 2nd test match vs South Africa. Rahane averages over 55 in test matches outside India and was India’s best batsman when we played in South Africa the last time.

It would be very hard to find a reason to drop Rohit after just 1 failure given his imperious form in ODI and T20 in last 18 months. However, Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri need to think beyond reputation and reason their change for the 2nd test match vs South Africa.

On the face of it, Rahul and Rahane seem certain to play for India in the 2nd test match vs South Africa, however, fans and South African cricket team must be prepared for a surprise inclusion after Jasprit Bumrah was handed a debut in the 1st test.
